What is The Hope Chest?
The Hope Chest is a clever multi-stage treasure hunt released in December 2022 by Cris Dotson, inspired by the Forrest Fenn Thrill of the Chase. Unlike most hunts with a single hidden treasure, The Hope Chest sends searchers on a sequential journey — find four hidden tags first, each revealing the next poem, before claiming the final $50,000 cash prize in a hidden capsule.
The first tag (the Green Tag) has already been found by multiple searchers. As of early 2026, the Red Tag has also been found by one searcher. The hunt is progressing — which means momentum is building and now is a great time to get involved.
How the Hunt Works
The book contains the first poem, which leads to the first hidden tag. Upon finding each tag, you receive a new poem leading to the next. The sequence is: Green Tag → Red Tag → (next tags) → Final Treasure Capsule containing $50,000 cash.
